Gahtelay, Eritrea

It is a small town along the main road, home to about 3,000 people from the Tigre, Tigrinya and Saho groups. Most people farm, herd animals and trade, growing maize, sorghum, nuts, oranges and watermelon. The name means “water is back” in the Saho language. A big dam nearby helps with farming and water for the area and Massawa.
