Ethiopian General Bacha Debele threatens Eritrea, saying that if war breaks out between Ethiopia and Eritrea, Ethiopia will invade Eritrea, dismantle the government of Eritrea, violate Eritrea’s sovereignty, and change Eritrea’s borders.
The Ethiopian general also spoke about Badme, Asmara, and other Eritrean territories.
Claims Over Eritrean Territory:
This comes after Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali claimed that the Eritrean town of Barentu belongs to the Oromo ethnicity of Ethiopia.
General Bacha’s Own Past as a POW:
General Bacha Debele himself was a prisoner of war in Eritrea from 1981 to 1991.
A Caution on Pride and Ethiopia’s Internal Fragility:
Too much pride makes you blind and vulnerable. Ethiopia itself faces multiple internal wars and could balkanize itself.
